Blog #2

This week in Interior Design we learned about physical and psychological needs that a house provides. Physical needs that a home provides are storage, safety, shelter, sleep, and food. The 4 psychological needs are love and belonging, privacy, creativity, and identity. The housing life cycle is the cycle that most people go through when choosing a place to live at different points in their life. There are 4 stages, young adult, young family, launching, and empty nesters. Starting from youngest and ending at oldest it shows what the average house will be like at the average age. At the young adult stage most people have small apartments or dorms because that's what they can afford. Young families will normally live in a small 2 bedroom home. Launching families will probably upgrade from the small house and go for maybe a 3 or 4 bedroom house to fit more of their and their chaotic lives. Finally, the empty nesters no longer have kids living at home so they will downsize since it is only them and they don't know what to do with all the space.
